Stress

Stress is how the body automatically responds to real or imagined danger or threat. By stimulating the body into the process of “fight-or-flight”, we become focused, energetic, and alert and have the strength needed to defend ourselves or assist in an emergency situation. It can also help to sharpen concentration for a presentation at work or an exam, but there comes a point where stress isn’t helpful and it starts to damage health, mood, productivity, relationships and quality of life.

Stress can be caused by many things bur generally anything that places a high demand can be stressful and this can include events that are seen as positive - getting married, buying a house, going to university or being promoted. Causes of stress can include:

·      Pessimism

·      Perfectionism

The physical, mental and emotional demands of modern life can be considerable and whatever the cause, stress is a difficult thing to live with. It can feel exhausting and take its toll on both mental and physical health.
